At the height of America’s Revolution, City Tavern was the political, social, and business center of the new United States. Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all ate here. In fact George Washington held one of his pre-inaugural balls in the Tavern’s historic “Long Room”. The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution both owe much to the food and spirits consumed in this building.
Today, Chef Walter Staib, host of PBS’ Emmy award winning A Taste of History, has brought the tavern back to life, complete with original recipes and drinks from the 1800’s, all served in nine colonial period rooms by staff in historic costume. Come enjoy a true taste of history.
